Matcha Ritual

Posted by Samara Macchia on

The matcha tea ceremony has been an integral part of the traditional Japanese culture for centuries. A quiet celebration performed with grace and beauty, the matcha tea ritual is a bonding experience of mindfulness, respect and a focus on the now.

For your matcha ritual, you will need a chasen (whisk), a chawan (bowl), a chashaku (measuring scoop), high quality matcha powder and hot water (around 80°C).

Find all of these items here.

First rinse your chasen & chawan with hot water. Then scoop a small amount of matcha powder into your bowl with hot water. Fill your bowl about a third of the way fill. Next, use your bamboo whisk (holding it vertically from the top) stir a few times to make sure all the matcha clumps are off the bottom and side of the bowl. Then whisk very briskly back and forth in a straight line for about 20-30 seconds.

You should then have a warm, frothy matcha to drink & enjoy.
