For Optimal Health & Longevity

100grams

Our Immunity Elixir is a unique blend of medicinal mushroom, tonic herbs and spices and has been created to add to your daily brew with the intention of helping your body naturally boost its immune system, relieve stress, maximise your cardiovascular health, and build your natural resilience. We love the ‘grungy’ taste of this elixir in a great coffee, chocolate or dandelion brew, however you can add a little raw honey (Manuka honey is excellent for its antibacterial properties) if your taste buds err on the sweeter side of life.

Shiitake (Lentinus edodes)  # (10:1 extract powder)

A regular inclusion in our breakfast omelette, Shiitake mushrooms have been grown for centuries and are native to the mountain regions of Japan, Korea  and China, where they grow on fallen logs. They have traditionally been used both as food and medicine and are known to have both antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties. They are particularly rich in natural copper, a mineral that supports healthy blood vessels, bones, and immune support, and are also a good source of selenium. They contain a compound called eritadenine, a compound known to reduce cholesterol levels in the blood. They also contain beta-glucans that reduce inflammation and help prevent the intestines from absorbing cholesterol. Polysaccharides like lentinans and other beta glucans protect against cell damage, helping your immune system, and boost white blood cell production for fighting off microbes. Shiitake mushrooms are high in B vitamins, and they can be a useful food source of vitamin D. Other health benefits may include aiding weight loss, supporting cardiovascular health, fighting cancer cells as well as improving energy levels and brain function.

Astragalus (Astragalus membranaceus)  10:1 dual extract powder

The tonic herb Astragalus has been used for centuries to help improve immunity and support circulation. It is believed to support your Wei Qi (protective energy just under the skin) as well as enhance the ability of the body to release toxins via the skin and heal wounds. It contains triterpene glycosides (saponins) and polysaccharides which provide immunomodulating effects in humans (and animals). These enhance macrophage activity, increase natural killer-cell efficiency and increase the capacity for intelligent immune response to “invaders” while reducing excessive immune function, as we see in auto-immune conditions. With its potential anti-ageing, immune boosting, vascular protective and anti-cancer properties, it is not surprising that in the Chinese tradition it is known as the Great Protector!

Ginger root (Zingiber officinale)

A personal favourite and probably one of the most widely used spices in the world, ginger not only tastes amazing but studies have shown that it has powerful antiviral and antibacterial properties and can enhance immune response. It has traditionally been used to assist with a number of health issues including nausea, vomiting and pain. Ginger has been shown to have antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-neuroinflammation properties, and is widely used to help reduce nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, post anaesthesia and during chemotherapy. Ginger contains a natural component called Gingerol, which can help gastrointestinal motility ― the rate at which food exits the stomach and continues along the digestive process, promoting a more efficient digestion. It may also help increase blood flow and circulation, lower blood pressure, and  stimulate digestive enzymes.

Ceylon Cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum)

Ahhh the sweet, warm scent of cinnamon!  This spice is another great immune booster that has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for many years, to treat colds and flus, tooth ache, muscle tension, and is also considered to strengthen the heart, warm the kidneys and promote healthy digestion.

Cinnamon contains compounds such as cinnamaldehyde, cinnamic acid, cinnamate, as well as a number of polyphenols which may provide antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antimicrobial and anticancer effects. Recent studies have look at the possible beneficial effects of cinnamon in Alzheimer's & Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, arthritis, and arteriosclerosis, and there is some early evidence that it may play a positive role in cancer and inflammatory, cardioprotective, and neurological disorders.

Turmeric (Curcuma longa)

The vibrant color of turmeric really says it all... This spice has been used medicinally for thousands of years as an important Ayurvedic herb to treat inflammation, coughs and gastric disorders. More recently research has shown that its active component curcumin has potent effects in modulating the immune system and combatting inflammation. It’s beneficial effects in arthritis, allergy, asthma, atherosclerosis, heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, and cancer are thought to be due in part to its ability to modulate the immune system.

We have included premium turmeric (8% curcumin) in our Immunity Blend.

Fenugreek Seed  (Trigonella foenum graecum)

The sweet, nutty fenugreek seed has been used traditionally as both food and medicine in African, Middle Eastern, Egyptian and Indian cultures for many years. Research suggests that the seeds may have antimicrobial, antioxidant, antidiabetic and antitumorigenic activities, and can reduce both internal and external inflammation.  Interestingly, it may also improve your sex life and reproductive function. The anti-inflammatory effects of Fenugreek seeds can make it useful in reducing the effects of infections, chronic coughs, bronchitis, mouth ulcers and kidney ailments, and some recent studies have suggested that they may be useful in the management of blood sugar levels in people with diabetes.

Pink Lake Salt

We have added a small amount of salt to help balance the flavours of this blend, enhancing sweetness and suppressing bitterness.

And we have sourced what we believe is one of the best quality salts available in Australia. Harvested from the unique Pink Lake in Western Victoria, this naturally occurring salt is a concentrated store of natural mineral nutrients including calcium, magnesium, phosphorus, sulphur, iron, manganese, zinc and copper as well as beta carotene. The lake is fed by natural salt aquifers and each summer dries out to reveal a bed of salmon coloured pink salt (from the red algae present). Mount Zero and the lake’s traditional owners, the Barengi Gadjin Land Council have been working together to hand harvest a small amount of salt from the lake each year.

Black Peppercorn  (Piper nigrum)

And a little black pepper has been added too.  Black pepper, and its active component piperine, have associations with many health benefits, including antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and antimicrobial effects, boosting brain function and increasing levels of ‘good’ cholesterol. However the main reason we have added black pepper is because  the piperine in it is known to enhance curcumin (from turmeric) absorption in the body by up to a massive 2,000%, therefore making these two a very productive couple. This is useful to remember when you have a curry or a golden latte too – don’t forget to grind some black peppercorns on top.
