Wellness Botanical Tea

50grams

It is not surprising that herbal teas have been used for centuries by ancient civilisations as medicine.  Mainstream science is starting to catch up with what healers have known for years – tea can have powerful preventative and sometimes curative effects  on a range of common illnesses, from cancer, heart disease, infections, colds & flu through to inflammatory diseases.  Maybe it’s a cup of herbal tea a day that keeps the doctor away?

Our blend includes some of the big players like Echinacea, Calendula,  Yarrow, Tumeric and Ginger to keep your immune system buzzing away happily!    We reach for this tea whenever we are feeling a little run down or can sense a cold coming on.

Ritual: Infuse 1 -2 tsp of tea in 1 cup of very hot water (not boiling) for 3-5 minutes before straining. Enjoy mindfully.

Certified Organic Ingredients: Echinacea, Calendula, Yarrow, Ginger, Turmeric, Lemon Peel.

ECHINACEA ( Echinacea purpurea) whole plant

Echinacea is an excellent immune stimulant, and is used to remove toxins, fight infection and help cleanse the blood, lymph system, kidneys and liver.  It is believed to help fight bacteria, viruses, fungi and microbes. Studies on echinacea have discovered a large range of bioactive compounds, indicating that it is a rich source of phytochemicals that might be used to cure a number of diseases. Antioxidants, immunomodulators, anti-inflammatory, antibacterial, antiviral and anti-osteoporotic are just a few of the positive biological effects that have been identified.  Recently, Echinacea preparations, particularly E. purpurea, have been suggested to be an important antiviral agent to be useful in COVID-19 by modulating virus entry, internalization and replication.

Generally considered low risk but avoid taking with antipsychotic and antidepressant medications

CALENDULA  (Calendula officinalis) flowers

The beautiful Calendula flower has traditionally been used for many purposes, including the topical treatment of ulcers, wounds, burns and rashes as it has a positive effect on the inflammatory and proliferative phases of the healing process.  As a tea it has many potential health benefits with its immunostimulatory, anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties, and is frequently used to help alleviate the symptoms of cold & flu. Studies suggest that Calendula may also have anti-anxiety, antidepression, cytotoxity and antimutagenicity effects.

YARROW  (Achillea millefolium) aerials

Yarrow has traditionally been used to treat inflammation and digestive issues like ulcers and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS), to help treat skin wounds, and relieve anxiety and insomnia.   It has also been used in traditional herbal medicine to treat amenorrhea, which is an abnormal absence of menstruation, and to relieve mastitis in breastfeeding mothers.   More recent research has shown Yarrow to have immune modulating effects, and antibacterial, anti-inflammatory, antifungal and antiparasitic activity.  Yarrow may be helpful for asthma and high blood pressure and some studies suggest that Yarrow has antitumour properties as well.

GINGER (Zingiber officinale) root

Ginger contains a natural component called Gingerol, which can help gastrointestinal motility ― the rate at which food exits the stomach and continues along the digestive process, promoting a more efficient digestion. It has traditionally been used to assist with a number of health issues including nausea, vomiting and pain. Ginger has been shown to have antioxidant, antimicrobial, and anti-neuroinflammation properties, and is widely used to help reduce nausea and vomiting during pregnancy, post anaesthesia and during chemotherapy. It may also help increase blood flow and circulation,  lower blood pressure, and  stimulate digestive enzymes.

Ginger has an anti-inflammatory effect, but in high doses it may affect blood clotting, it is contraindicated for sufferers of gallstones, stomach irritation and high blood pressure.

TURMERIC (Curcuma longa) root

Turmeric has been used medicinally for thousands of years as an important Ayurvedic herb to treat inflammation, coughs and gastric disorders. More recently research has shown that its active component curcumin has potent effects in modulating the immune system and combatting inflammation.  It’s beneficial effects in arthritis, allergy, asthma, atherosclerosis, heart disease, Alzheimer's disease, diabetes, and cancer are thought to be due in part to its ability to modulate the immune system.

LEMON PEEL (Citrus limon)

Traditionally lemon has been used for warding off scurvy as it is rich in natural vitamin C, however lemon peel also has an array of health benefits, being rich in phytochemicals like alkaloids, flavonoids, phenols and essential oils, providing useful immune support, as well as anticancer, antimicrobial and antioxidant activity.
