Nourish Botanical Root Tea
This earthy blend of herbal root teas has been created with the intention of supporting a healthy liver and gut as well as your cardiovascular and immune systems. The components in this tea may also be useful in supporting the healing of skin conditions, infections, colds & flus and regulating blood sugar levels.
Best taken in the morning on an empty stomach.
Ritual: To make 1 cup of tea, add 1 heaped tbsp to 2 cups of filtered water in a saucepan, bring to the boil and simmer for 10-15mins. Strain & Enjoy mindfully.

DANDELION ROOT (Taraxacum officinalis) root
Although it's most famous for being a common garden weed, dandelion is a plant with a long history of use in traditional medicine for liver health and lowering blood glucose levels. The roasted and dried roots are a rich source of micronutrients as well as inulin, a complex carbohydrate which has beneficial effects including the elimination of pathogens in the gastrointestinal tract, and repression of diabetes, obesity, cancer, and osteoporosis. There is now considerable evidence that dandelion root can be used in the prevention of a variety of liver diseases as a result of its rich composition in phytochemicals.
BURDOCK ROOT (Arctium lappa) root
Burdock root is another common weed that is related to sunflowers and is part of the daisy family. It has been an important part of Traditional Chinese Medicine for centuries, being used to ‘detoxify’ the blood and prevent infection. Burdock root has a number of health benefits including antioxidant and anti-inflammatory actions, and can be used to promote blood circulation to the skin and help reduce eczema. More recently research has focussed on the medicinal uses of burdock in treating chronic diseases such as cancers, obesity, lipid metabolism, diabetes and AIDS.
CINNAMON (Cinnamomum cassia) bark
Cassia Cinnamon has been used in Ayurvedic medicine for many years, to treat tooth ache, muscle tension, colds and flus, and is also considered to strengthen the heart, warm the kidneys and promote healthy digestion. It adds a sweetness and warmth to many drinks and dishes and has been used by many cultures for centuries.
Cinnamon contains compounds such as cinnamaldehyde, cinnamic acid, cinnamate, as well as a number of polyphenols which may provide antioxidant, anti-inflammatory, antidiabetic, antimicrobial and anticancer effects. Recent studies have look at the possible beneficial effects of cinnamon in Alzheimer's & Parkinson’s disease, diabetes, arthritis, and arteriosclerosis, and there is some early evidence that it may play a positive role in cancer and inflammatory, cardioprotective, and neurological disorders.
MARSHMALLOW ROOT (Althaea officinalis)
Marshmallow root has traditionally been used for the treatment of colds, flu and symptoms associated with upper respiratory tract infection. There is some early evidence that having marshmallow early on can help alleviate some of the symptoms of COVID-19. In addition, some research suggests that the mucilage and flavonoids in the marshmallow plant may cover and protect the mucous lining of the stomach, which may reduce the risk of certain ulcers, including NSAID-associated ulcers.
ST MARYS THISTLE (Silybum marianum) seed
This flowering herb has been used traditionally for many years as a liver tonic. More recently research has confirmed that St Mary’s Thistle may be liver protective though a number of pathways, and may help regenerate damaged liver cells and protect them from poisons. It has antioxidant, toxin blocking, antifibriotic and possible anti-inflammatory and immunomodulating effects.
Drug interactions with milk thistle are unlikely or very limited however it may reduce the effectiveness of Warfarin, Dilantin and Valium
STAR ANISE (Illicium verum) fruit
Star Anise is the pod which is home to the well known aniseed. It is an important ingredient in Traditional Herbal Medicine and is widely known for its antiviral effects. It is also the source of the precursor molecule, shikimic acid, which is used in the manufacture of oseltamivir (Tamiflu®), an antiviral medication for influenza A and influenza B. Star anise has a number of other potential effects including antioxidant, antimicrobial, antifungal, insecticidal, anti-inflammatory, gastroprotective, sedative properties, expectorant and spasmolytic, and estrogenic effects.
CLOVE (Syzygium aromaticum) buds
Cloves have been used in Indian and Chinese traditional medicine for centuries as a warming and stimulating agent. Traditionally they are used in the treatment of vomiting, flatulence, nausea, liver, bowel and stomach disorders, and as a stimulant for the nerves. They are also sometimes used to reduce coughs, clear sinuses and provide relief from tooth pain. More recently, research has shown that the essential oil found in clove has biological activity relevant to human health, including antimicrobial, antioxidant, and insecticidal activity. Studies are ongoing looking into their anti-inflammatory , analgesic, anaesthetic, and anti cancer effects.
