Genius Botanical Tea

50grams

Our genius tea blend came about when we were looking for a pick me up during an afternoon working on the computer.  Recently there has been a lot of interest in Nootropics – substances that can help improve our cognitive function including memory, creativity, motivation & concentration.   There have been many herbs used for centuries in traditional Aryuvedic & Chinese medicine that are now also being scientifically shown to have positive effects on our brain’s health & longevity, helping keep us smart for longer.   Not only are these herbs used to improve mood & cognitive function, reduce stress & anxiety levels, and improve learning & memory but they may have protective effects against neurologic disorders such as Parkinsons disease as well as Alzheimers & other dementias.

We have blended together some of our favourite high performance brain herbs to help keep your brain young & healthy and your neurons happily firing!

Ritual: Infuse 1 -2 tsp of tea in 1 cup of very hot water (not boiling) for 2-5 minutes before straining.

Enjoy mindfully.

Certified Organic Ingredients: Tulsi, Gotu Kola, Brahmi, Ginkgo Biloba

TULSI (Ocimum gratissiumum) aerials

Tulsi or Holy Basil is a sacred Indian plant, often referred to as an “Elixir of Life” and traditionally used in Ayurvedic medicine to treat many different common health conditions including bronchitis, rheumatism, epilepsy, asthma, hiccups, cough, skin and haematological diseases, parasitic infections, neuralgia, headache, wounds, and inflammation and oral conditions.  Many studies over the years have indeed shown Tulsi to have multiple therapeutic actions including adaptogenic, antimicrobial, anti-inflammatory, cardioprotective, and immunomodulatory effects.  Holy basil has also been shown to have potential cognition-enhancing properties.  There is growing evidence that Tulsi may have a role to play in the treatment of lifestyle-related chronic diseases including diabetes, metabolic syndrome, and psychological stress.

GOTU KOLA  (Centella asiatica) leaves

Nicknamed the ‘Herb of Enlightenment’  Gotu Kola is one of Ayurvedic and Chinese medicine’s most revered herbal medicines, with a key use being to enhance cognitive function.   It has a high nutritional value providing carotenoids, vitamin B and C, minerals, and other phytonutrients including flavonoids and polyphenols, and is commonly consumed as a leafy green vegetable in many South East Asian countries. The medicinal benefits of Gotu kola have included antidiabetic, wound-healing, antimicrobial, memory enhancing, antioxidant, and neuro protecting properties. Specific to neurological properties, it has been proposed to help with fatigue, anxiety, depression, memory improvement and cognitive function.

BRAHMI (Bacopa monniera) aerials

Brahmi is another important Ayurvedic medicinal herb, that has been used traditionally as a nootropic herb and for neurological and psychiatric disorders. It is used to remove toxins from the nervous system, rejuvenate brain cells, as well as improve memory and concentration. It’s also used to help restore the mind and body while recovering from addictions. It has positive effects on the circulatory, muscular and nervous systems.  More recent research has suggested that Brahmi may improve higher cognitive processes, assist with faster information processing and decision making and improve memory retention and acquisition.

GINGKO BILOBA (Ginkgoaceae Engl.) leaves

Gingko Biloba has medicinal, spiritual, and horticultural importance in Chinese culture with a long history of use in traditional medicine to treat blood disorders, improve memory and keep the mind sharp.   Recent research has shown Gingko can help improve cognitive functioning, significantly improve speed of information processing, working memory and executive processing and improve  mood and alertness.

Drug interactions with Ginkgo are unlikely or very limited, however it should not be taken with Warfarin.
